| (1) በሰማዩ በሌሊት መጪውም እምላለሁ፡፡ | (1) By the sky and the night comer – |
| (2) የሌሊት መጪውም ምን እንደ ኾነ ምን አሳወቀህ? | (2) and how do you know what the night comer is? |
| (3) ጨለማን ቀዳጁ ኮከብ ነው፡፡ | (3) It is the star of piercing brightness – |
| (4) ነፍስ ሁሉ በእርሷ ላይ ጠባቂ ያለባት እንጅ ሌላ አይደለችም፡፡ | (4) there is no soul except that there is a watcher over it. |
| (5) ሰውም ከምን እንደተፈጠረ ይመልከት፡፡ | (5) Let man reflect on what he was created from. |
| (6) ከተስፈንጣሪ ውሃ ተፈጠረ፡፡ | (6) He was created from a spurting fluid, |
| (7) ከጀርባና ከእርግብግብቶች መካከል የሚወጣ ከኾነ (ውሃ)፡፡ | (7) emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. |
| (8) እርሱ (አላህ) በመመለሱ ላይ በእርግጥ ቻይ ነው፡፡ | (8) Indeed, Allah is able to bring him back to life. |
| (9) ምስጢሮች በሚገለጡበት ቀን፡፡ | (9) On the Day when all secrets will be disclosed, |
| (10) ለእርሱም (ለሰው) ኀይልና ረዳት ምንም የለውም፡፡ | (10) he will then have no power, nor any helper. |
| (11) የመመለስ ባለቤት በኾነችው ሰማይም እምላለሁ፡፡ | (11) By the sky and its recurring rain, |
| (12) (በበቃይ) የመሰንጠቅ ባለቤት በኾነችው ምድርም፤ | (12) and by the earth that cracks open [with the sprout of plants], |
| (13) እርሱ (እውነትን ከውሸት) የሚለይ ቃል ነው፡፡ | (13) Indeed, this [Qur’an] is a decisive word, |
| (14) እርሱም ቀልድ አይደለም፡፡ | (14) which is not for amusement. |
| (15) እነርሱ በእርግጥ ተንኮልን ይሠራሉ፡፡ | (15) Indeed, they are devising a plan. |
| (16) (እኔ) ተንኮልንም እመልሳለሁ፡፡ | (16) I am too devising a plan. |
| (17) ከሓዲዎችንም ቀን ስጣቸው፡፡ ጥቂትን ጊዜ አቆያቸው፡፡ | (17) So bear with the disbelievers, and give them respite for a while. |
