| (1) በዚህ አገር (በመካ) እምላለሁ፡፡ |
(1) I do swear by this city [of Makkah] – |
| (2) አንተ በዚህ አገር ሰፋሪ ስትኾን፡፡ |
(2) and you are free of restriction [for a while] in this city – |
| (3) በወላጂም በወለዳቸውም ሰዎች (በአዳምና በዘሮቹ ሁሉ እምላለሁ)፡፡ |
(3) and by every parent and offspring, |
| (4) ሰውን ሁሉ በእርግጥ በልፋት ውስጥ ኾኖ ፈጠርነው፡፡ |
(4) We have created man in hardship. |
| (5) በእርሱ ላይ አንድም የማይችል መኾኑን ይጠረጥራልን? |
(5) Does he think that none can ever have power over him? |
| (6) «ብዙን ገንዘብ አጠፋሁ» ይላል፡፡ |
(6) He says, “I have squandered enormous wealth!” |
| (7) አንድም ያላየው መኾኑን ያስባልን? |
(7) Does he think that no one sees him? |
| (8) ለእርሱ ሁለት ዓይኖችን አላደረግንለትምን? |
(8) Have We not given him two eyes, |
| (9) ምላስንና ሁለት ከንፈሮችንም፡፡ |
(9) and a tongue and two lips, |
| (10) ሁለትን መንገዶችም አልመራነውምን? |
(10) and shown him the two ways [of right and wrong]? |
| (11) ዓቀበቲቱንም አልወጣም፡፡ |
(11) Yet he did not make his way through the steep path, |
| (12) ዓቀበቲቱም (መውጣቷ) ምን እንደኾነች ምን አሳወቀህ? |
(12) and how do you know what the steep path is? |
| (13) (እርሱ) ጫንቃን መልቀቅ ነው፡፡ |
(13) It is freeing a slave, |
| (14) ወይም የረኃብ ባለቤት በኾነ ቀን ማብላት፡፡ |
(14) or giving food on a day of hunger, |
| (15) የዝምድና ባለቤት የኾነን የቲም፤ |
(15) to an orphan relative, |
| (16) ወይም የዐፈር ባለቤት የኾነን ድኻ (ማብላት ነው)፡፡ |
(16) or to a needy person in misery, |
| (17) (ዐቀበቲቱን አልወጣም)፡፡ ከዚያም ከነዚያ ከአመኑትና በመታገስ አደራ ከተባባሉት፣ በማዘንም አደራ ከተባባሉት ሰዎች አልኾነም፡፡ |
(17) then [most importantly] to be one of those who believe and exhort one another to patience and exhort one another to compassion. |
| (18) እነዚያ (ይህንን የፈጸሙ) የቀኝ ጓዶች ናቸው፡፡ |
(18) Such are the people of the Right. |
| (19) እነዚያም በአንቀጾቻችን የካዱት እነርሱ የግራ ጓዶች ናቸው፡፡ |
(19) As for those who reject Our signs, they are the people of the Left, |
| (20) በእነርሱ ላይ የተዘጋች እሳት አልለች፡፡ |
(20) who will be locked up in the Fire. |
